NÜRTINGEN/GEISLINGEN(hfwu). Nürtingen-Geislingen University of Applied Sciences (HGU) participated in the UNESCO Day of Tolerance on November 16. As a sign for diversity, equality and self-determination, the Intersex Inclusive Progress Pride flag was visible at all campuses of the university.

November 16 is the Day of Tolerance. The day was established in 1995 by UNESCO, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization. At that time, 185 member states declared the Principles of Tolerance, which enable peace and help to overcome the cult of war through a culture of peace. The principles of tolerance are based on values such as human rights and the fundamental freedoms of every human being.

The concept of tolerance is to be understood much more broadly than it is explained in dictionaries. It means not only "to tolerate, to apply, to allow", but also consideration, generosity and open-mindedness. A term that tries to make people see the world with different eyes.

Solidarity, understanding and respectful interaction between people characterize NGU. The personal life plan should be allowed to be lived out without exclusion and discrimination. The Intersex Inclusive Progress Pride Flag is a symbol for this. By raising this flag at all locations of the university, these values shall be made visible. The flag stands for diversity, equality and self-determination regardless of origin, skin color, sexual orientation or identity. This is a clear sign of welcome for all people at HGU and at the same time a reminder to take further initiatives for a discrimination-free university.
